News and Events

After some 40 years of dedicated service, Kevin has reluctantly found it necessary to stand down from his SVP role, a role which he assumed almost immediately on his arrival at St. Peter’s. He has served our Conference in various capacities, including that of Conference President until fairly recently. He has been fully involved throughout in our visit programmes to the lonely or housebound, planning and arranging the “Bluebell Run”, organising the coach bookings for the annual Parish outing as well as having acted as the focal point for guests at the Spring (“Snowdrop”) Lunch.

However, apart from his invaluable service to the SVP, Kevin has also served our wider Parish community in a variety of ways. He has been a Eucharist Minister, Parish Health & Safety Rep., member of the weekly collection rota and, after the 11:00 am Sunday Mass, it was he who arranged the teas, coffees and biscuits in the Pugin Rooms for those parishioners who fancied a “cuppa” after Mass. The He also supervised the lighting of the fire and distribution of candles at our special Vigil Masses during Holy Week.

His professional talents as a BBC sound Engineer were also brought to bear with the sound/acoustics systems at St. Peter’s. These talents were also recognised in his professional work when he and the other technical staff, together with the cast, were presented to HM the Queen at a special performance of TV’s “The Good Life” – a proud moment in a distinguished career.

We at the SVP will sorely miss him.”

READERS AT MASS It is wonderful that we are able to celebrate the Eucharist together again, albeit it within socially distanced rules! There is a Rota for Mass Readers for the next few weeks, which you will find in the Church Porch. There is only one Reader for each Mass.I have also included the Covid 19 rules as they apply to Readers. Please read and inwardly digest them, as they will be in place for the foreseeable future. The new Readers, who were recruited just before Lockdown, will appear on the next Rota. This will give you a chance to see how the system runs under the new regulations. Stay safe, everyone! MAKING A DONATION The parish has lost about  £500 per week from the collection baskets on Sundays. We have also lost all income from the Pugin rooms and the car park. Thank you to those who have made a special donation to make up for their missed offerings during the lockdown. The following  address/hyperlink can be used if you wish to make a donation to the parish via our account at the Diocese:

GIVING TUESDAY All you need to do is phone 01604 712065 and make a donation to the parish. You will need a credit or debit card to hand and you will be able to make a one-off donation to cover missed Sunday offerings or simply call each week to make an offering. ‘Giving Tuesday’ service will be available between 10am and 4pm each Tuesday.

RECONCILIATION Only on request as long as hygiene and social distancing requirements are observed.

FUNERALS Services without Mass are now permitted in churches.  Numbers attending should be minimised and hygiene and social distancing rules must be observed.  Only members of a person’s household, close family members or if these cannot attend, close friends.  A memorial Mass should be offered when congregations can gather safely again
